We will be utilizing a Moodle Project space for cross-group discussions utilizing Moodle Chat and Hot Question. Upon registration, participants were granted access to the Moodle Space through REPORTER. All non-NC State participants should use their Brickyard account when signing in.

Session Option 1: Wicked Problems [Dr. Melissa Ramirez, Dr. Jason Flores, Cathi Dunnagan, Karen Ciccone, Jill Anderson, Jane Lubischer]

Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions — a special kind of multidisciplinary course.

What is a "wicked problem"? Great question. A “wicked” problem is one that impacts the world in a way that transcends the expertise of any one person or field — a global challenge. To fully understand and address any wicked problem, we have to use more than just one point of view. This course looks at a wicked problem through the perspectives of multiple disciplines, including history, biology, sociology, ecology, chemistry, epidemiology, psychology, design, engineering, public health, communication, manufacturing, media, film studies, and more.

In summer 2020 and again during winter break, NC State invited all incoming first-year and transfer students to participate in a new online experience. Throughout Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions, students explored the history, biology and societal impacts of pandemics like COVID-19. And students learned how NC State faculty in many different areas are contributing to solutions to this wicked problem.

Session Option 2: Build Belonging in Your Post-Pandemic Course [Mary Estrada]

After a year of isolation and frustration, instructors are looking to build community and connect with students more than ever. How can we convey "flexibility, empathy, and kindness" in our courses, thereby reducing student anxiety and improving learner outcomes? This session will cover three specific ways to humanize your online or f2f course.

3:00 PM - 3:50 PM

Session Option 1: Authentic Assessment [Dr. Melissa Ramirez, Dr. Julianne Treme, Dr. Lori Del Negro]

Interested in making your assessments more meaningful? Challenged by how to do that in your discipline or in a large course? Join three faculty experts as they discuss how they rethought their assessments to make them more authentic to their discipline.

Session Option 2: Hyflex: What Are My Options at NC State? [Bethany Smith]

The Hyflex course design model looks at creating a flexible structure for your course that gives students options for their mode of interaction and attendance. In this session we will look at the technology that is available in classrooms on campus, including Panopto as well as the options for engaging your students both in-person and remotely. We will discuss the multiple ways that you could implement a flexible model for your classroom and what works best for your course and teaching style.
