2024 4-H South Central District Activity Day FAQ
4-H District Activity Day will be held on the campus of Scotland County High School between four buildings: Building 2, Building 3, Building 4 (new gym is inside of this building), and the Transition Mobile Unit (food presentations).
Outdoor Cookery will be setup in the Plaza Area.
1. What is the 2024 4-H South Central District Activity Day?
The 4-H South Central District Activity Day is an annual event where 4-H members from the South Central District come together to participate in various presentations, competitions, and workshops. It provides an opportunity for youth to showcase their skills, gain new knowledge, and interact with peers from other counties.
2. What types of activities and competitions are available?
The event features a variety of activities including public speaking, demonstrations, and expressive arts.
3. What should I bring to the event?
Participants should bring all materials needed for their presentations or competitions, such as props, displays, laptop, flash drive, easel, and project materials.
Each room contains a smartboard and table for set-up.
A podium is in the public speaking room.
Neither Laptops nor Computers are available.
4. Is there a dress code for the event?
While there is no strict dress code, participants are encouraged to wear neat, clean, and appropriate attire or an attire related to your presentation.
5. How are the winners determined?
Winners are determined based on criteria set for each competition category. Judges will evaluate the participants according to these criteria and scores will be tallied to determine the winners.
6. What awards are given out?
Awards vary by category and may include ribbons, trophies, certificates, and sometimes monetary prizes or scholarships. Details on the types of awards can be obtained from the event's website or your local 4-H office.
7. Can parents and family members attend the event?
Yes, parents and family members are welcome to attend the event to support their participants.
8. What safety measures are in place for the event?
Safety measures include having first aid kits and a Scotland County EMS station, ensuring all activities comply with safety standards, and having adult volunteers and staff present throughout the event. Scotland County School Resource Officers will be present to provide security.
9. Where is parking? A map of the school's parking lots can be downloaded and accessed under the Venue tab.
There will four parking lots, C, D, E, and F.
- C is located at the front-right of the school which is parking for everyone.
- D is parking for Scotland County Extension staff, Event volunteers, Event Sponsors, invited guests, State 4-H Council and advisors and South Central District advisors and staff, NCA&T/NCSU Event Staff. (Next to school buses). This is also the main entrance for everyone.
- E is parking for Outdoor Cookery participants and entrance to setup.
- F is drop-off for food presentations and includes parking for everyone.
- G is parking for everyone. This parking is on the grass.
10. Specific to Categories
a. Food Presentations-a full kitchen with prep tables, sinks, microwave, refrigerator. This will be located in the classroom trailer next to the greenhouse. Restrooms are located inside of this building with limited seating for spectators.
b. Outdoor Cookery-Designated parking and entrance for you will be in Parking lot E. A prep table with water will be available for washing hands and prepping for competition. Picnic benches will be available for cooks and spectators but you are welcome to bring your personal chair to set-up. Fire extinguishers, running water, trash can and a barrel will be available for clean-up and safety.
c. Entertains-This category will be inside of the new gym. A 76-key keyboard, speaker, microphone, chair, amp and 5-string guitar will be available for usage. The floor will be covered for dancers. Two locker rooms are across the hallway for participants only.
d. All other categories-Each room will be identified for each category. Each room has a smartboard, desks, and a table for set-up.
11. Are meals included/available for participants and attendees?
Lunch orders were completed through your local 4-H office. Each meal is represented by a ticket color. At check-in, each county will receive a packet with the tickets ordered by their county. Red-chicken sandwich meal, Green-Salad, Yellow-Veggie wrap. Lunch will be available inside of the cafeteria beginning at 12:00 PM.
12. Is the building handicap accessible?
Yes, the front entrance and throughout the buildings are handicap accessible. An elevator is located in Building 2.

14. My cell phone, camera, tablet, laptop and other electronics battery power is running low, what can I do?
You may charge your electronic device(s) at several charging stations located in Building 2, Room 229.
15. What if I lose anything?
Lost and Found will be managed by Scotland County 4-H Volunteers in Building 2, Room 227. Also, you can subscribe to the 4-H South Central District Activity Day SlickText for updates leading up to and during the event by texting
