Our long-term goal is to design cover cropping systems that improve soil health and water quality. Common Experiment 1 is specifically designed to determine how grass and legume cover crops impact soil N cycling and optimum N fertilizer management for the subsequent crop. Our study will include 45 site-years of cover crop growth, biological N fixation, N release, and corn or cotton yield response to N fertilizer rate.
