I am an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Biotechnology Program (BIT), Department of Biological Sciences, and an affiliate faculty in the Microbiology Graduate Program at North Carolina State University. My scientific research interests focus on the development of alternative antimicrobials to combat bacterial pathogens. This area of study allows me to use exciting technology, including whole-genome sequencing and CRISPR-equipped bacteriophage! I have a passion for teaching and love to implement these novel scientific tools in undergraduate research experiences and courses. My educational research focuses on how the use of course-based research experiences with a focus on experimental design and scientific communication can improve student self-efficacy when discussing scientific topics.
