NC State requires that all students who meet certain "invoking criteria" have health insurance coverage from a credible provider and provide proof of such coverage each semester. If the requirements apply (and they usually do), you must prove that you have health insurance coverage each semester you are enrolled by submitting an online waiver to StudentBlue that shows evidence of existing credible coverage (you will receive multiple emails from them notifying you to do this). If you do not submit a waiver, you will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (also known as the University Mandatory Health Insurance Plan) and be charged the premium.
If you do not already have coverage and are not a GSSP-eligible Graduate Assistant, NC State offers the Student Health Insurance Plan. All questions related to health insurance plan benefits and the policy itself should be directed to Student Blue.
Reminder: If you already have health insurance, you will need to submit the online waiver each semester.
North Carolina public law requires that you submit proof of your immunizations to the Student Health Center; however, MPA students typically fulfill the “Evening courses (classes beginning after 5:00 p.m.)” exception rule throughout the duration of the program and therefore will not ever need to submit immunization records.
One thing to keep in mind, though, is that if during any semester you take more than 4 credit hours of courses that take place before 5pm, you will need to present a record of immunization within 30 days of when you register for that course or courses. For example, some of our 700-level courses could be taken as elective courses and many of them are from 3:00 - 5:45pm; or you could take an elective course through another department that takes place before 5pm.
You can learn more about immunization on the Immunization and TB Compliance page.
