Applications
ShellCast: A Closure Forecast and Notification Tool for Shellfish Waters in NC, SC, and FL (https://go.ncsu.edu/shellcast)
For more on ShellCast, check out this press release from NC Sea Grant. Code for creating the models and web application are available on GitHub.
ShellBase: A Water Quality Database for Southeast Shellfish Waters, 1980s-2020. Posted to the SECOORA Data Portal. These data were created by shellfish sanitation programs in NC, SC, GA, and FL. Our team integrated the data into a unified database. Code for organizing the data and creating the database are available on GitHub. Read more about ShellCast in this summary, written by Emily Noakes at SECOORA.
Designs
3D Printed Swinging Water Sampler. Open source designs and specifications for 3D printing a water sample pole attachment are available on GitHub. Materials created by Adam Rok and Jay Campbell, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, NC State University, 2022.
3D Printed Sampling Adapter. Open source designs and specifications for 3D printing a water sample pole attachment are available on Thingiverse. This adapter allows for small sampling tubes (e.g., 50 mL centrifuge tubes) to be attached to a sampling pole, which can facilitate sampling through small spaces (e.g., through a stormwater grate). Designs created by Julia Harrison, Caroline Woods, and Justin Macialek, NC State University, 2025.
