Events and programs at the JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State University are designed to be a safe, welcoming environment for families and visitors of all ages to learn, explore, and interact with the gardens of the Arboretum.
Program staff and volunteers set the tone and environment for events and programs. Because of their important role in providing these experiences, program staff and volunteers are expected to follow these standards of conduct at all times to create a safe and welcoming environment:
Best practices including emergency procedures (severe weather policies and first aid procedures) should be followed at all times.
Program staff and volunteers should show respect for each other, other Arboretum staff, Arboretum visitors, and the gardens at all times. No discriminatory behavior or harassment will be tolerated. Intentional destruction of Arboretum property including the gardens will not be tolerated.
Any disputes between volunteers should be brought to Staff immediately.
Working in the Arboretum involves spending time outdoors in various weather conditions including heat and rain. Program staff and volunteers are asked to maintain a level of professionalism with their dress at all times when in the gardens. Clothing such as halter tops, excessively short shorts, and bare feet are considered inappropriate.
Secure and lock your valuables in your vehicle.
Use of cell phones should be limited while volunteering.
Only paid program staff are allowed to operate Arboretum vehicles such as golf carts, gators, and other power tools.
Do not use, possess or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
Smoking or vaping is not allowed while volunteering.
Do not possess or use any type of weapon or explosive device while in the Arboretum.
From time to time unforeseen incidents occur. If you are in an incident, which you feel could raise questions, make a full report immediately to the Volunteer Manager or other full-time Arboretum staff member.
