Tinkercad Flowers
What is it?
Tinkercad offers students an opportunity to explore the world of 3D coding with its user-friendly lessons, project guides, and unlimited tools to facilitate their learning.
In this module, I discovered the advantages of introducing elementary computer science coding abilities to students in the classroom. The module's primary aim was to teach us how integrating coding skills into a young student's classroom experience can kindle their interests and lead to new passions in the future. This is a flower that I created on Tinkercad and 3D printed at METRC. I learned how to create it by using the tutorials provides on the Tinkercad website. It was easy to use and now I know how to teach it if I were to use it in the classroom.
Why?
As technology advances and transforms at a rapid pace, it is becoming increasingly necessary for students to understand it from an early age. While some of the students may find it difficult to grasp technology at an early age, when presented in moderate increments, it builds a solid foundation that they can utilize in the future.
Now what?
Teaching kids computer science basics at a young age is super important for their future success in the world. As a teacher, I think it's essential to teach students how to code starting from 1st or 2nd grade. That way, they can build a strong foundation for learning more advanced computer science skills as they grow up. Computer science is not just for tech classes, it's useful in all subjects!
For example, a fun lesson plan for elementary students is using Tinkercad to tell stories. In this activity, kids work in groups of 2-3 to create a map for their character and then come up with a story about where their character goes and why. This is a great way for students to work on collaboration skills and decision-making with a unique approach.
