As a kindergarten teacher, my goal is to help my students learn important skills such as letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and more throughout the year. By the end of the year, I hope to have taught them an introduction to spelling and phonics, how to count forward and backward, and social skills like sharing and listening. To help them achieve these goals, I have created a variety of learning tools in my classroom. For example, there is a reading nook with headphones so that children can listen to an audio version of a book while following along with the words. I have also included a whiteboard with letters and numbers where students can practice spelling and counting. There is a TV with videos that count to 20 and sings the ABCs. The primary purpose of the TV is to connect music with learning.
Additionally, I have a craft table with blocks and scissors to help them practice their motor skills, and a calendar to practice days of the week, months, and weather. Finally, I offer laptop learning time where students can play computer games, specifically PBS early elementary games, to get familiar with using a computer while also building their knowledge through various programs. With all of these resources, I hope to create an engaging learning environment and provide my students with an introduction to STEM that they will use as they grow.
