About Me.

My Professional Development & Leadership Philosophy.

During my eleven years of teaching, eleven years of academic leadership, and forty-three years of learning, I have established a set of tenets regarding professional learning and leadership. Each belief has been informed by my personal and professional experiences as I aspire to be a major agent of change. The many students I've taught, as well as the staff, administrators, and educators with whom I've worked and under whom I've studied, shaped my evolving ideology of teaching, learning, and leadership.

  • Tenet One: Everyone has unique roles, positions, experiences, identities, and perspectives; know and respect their individuality.

  • Tenet Two: Everyone deserves opportunities for growth, leadership, self-discovery, creativity, curiosity, and inquiry.

  • Tenet Three: Professional development should be inclusive and learner-centered; invite everyone to participate, meet participants where they are, and provide everyone the same opportunities for engagement.

  • Tenet Four: A growth mindset should be modeled, promoted, and encouraged by leaders.

  • Tenet Five: Employing the “Coach Approach” is an effective way of providing support to educators.

  • Tenet Six: Treat every task as a learning opportunity and with due diligence.

  • Tenet Seven: As an active team member, I must exercise self-awareness and reflection on roles and my own contributions to the team.

  • Tenet Eight: Effective communication can help us smash silos.

  • Tenet Nine: Engage with others often in forward-thinking planning; proactivity always beats reactivity.

  • Tenet Ten: Agility, flexibility, and patience are crucial to navigating change management.

It is with my own tenets in mind that I approach all professional development and leadership opportunities. Carrying within me these beliefs and reflecting on them often heighten my self-actualization, interpersonal connections, aspirations of supporting all learners holistically, and approaches to change. Reflected in these tenets is my full commitment to promoting an inclusive organizational culture of lifelong learning. This commitment leads me to dare to fail forward, challenge my own assumptions, lead and support educators, and deepen my own knowledge and skills.
