This website was created as a final project for a course in human factors methods and measurement (PSY 743: Ergonomic Performance Assessment) at North Carolina State University. One goal of this course is for students to learn when and how to select specific human factors methods from the variety of options available to researchers. Each week, students read literature on a relevant topic area and then engaged in an active learning exercise in which they applied a chosen method to a task/situation of interest. This website synthesizes knowledge gained throughout the course of the semester in a way that we hope is approachable to people who may not be familiar with the field of Human Factors.
For each methodology, we provide a general description of its purpose, a representative list of methods to choose from, and a detailed example of a research question with one of the methods applied. The information presented here is not intended to be exhaustive, but we hope that it serves as a useful starting point for new researchers hoping to create safer, more useful, and efficient products and systems.
