Morgan Abate

An experienced journalist and writer, Morgan has successfully secured grant funds for food access and hunger relief agencies in Illinois. In her current role, she manages a $1MM grant portfolio for a mid-size human services agency, which includes government, corporate, civic and private support. She builds and maintains relationships with current and prospective funders by emphasizing community strengths and unlocking the potential of community members. She began her career in fundraising and community engagement as an AmericCorps VISTA at Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Morgan holds a BA in international and global studies from Elon University. When she's not fundraising, she's advocating for increased cultural competency to reduce health disparities and improve food systems in suburban and rural communities.

Esmeralda Dominguez

Esmeralda was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas Mexico and has lived in NC for over 10 years. She has 4 children who give her the strength to work and move forward in her life. Since she was young she has spent time helping others and really enjoys being attentive to them and their needs. She is very passionate about her work in helping the most vulnerable people and she has always been an advocate for justice in the agricultural communities. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her family, going to the park, and especially baking with her children.

Lariza Garzon

Lariza was born in Bogota, Colombia. She moved to the United States and attended Stetson University in Deland, FL. Lariza has been working with farmworker communities since 2004, when she was still in college. She is passionate about food production systems and farmworker justice.

Lindsey Haynes-Maslow

Dr. Lindsey Haynes-Maslow an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences at NC State University. Lindsey researches policies that lead to healthy behavior. She is an expert on the intersection between food systems, nutrition and public health, as well as the impact of government policies driving the food system. Before coming to NC State, Dr. Haynes-Maslow worked for the advocacy organization, the Union of Concerned Scientists, on federal food and nutrition policy, specifically the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act and The Farm Bill. Currently, she is the Principal Investigator of NC State’s SNAP-Education program, Steps to Health. She has a Ph.D. in health policy and management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also earned a Masters in healthcare administration and a B.S. in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Savi Horne

Savi Horne is the Executive Director of the NC Association of Black Lawyers Land Loss Prevention Project. She completed six years of service on the United States Environmental Protection Agency's National Environmental Justice Advisory Council. Savi serves on the boards of the National Family Farm Coalition and the Rural Coalition and is a member of the Coordinating Council of Black Land and Power Intitiative of the National Black Food and Justice Alliance. She is also a recipient of the 2020 American Bar Association of Environment, Energy, and Resources (SEER) Award for Excellence in Environmental, Energy, and Resources Stewardship. As a state, regional, and national non-governmental organization leader, she has been instrumental in addressing the needs of small and socially diadvantaged farmers. She is graduate of the Rutgers University School of Law- Newark (JD) and the City College of New York (BA).

Rose Krebs

Rose Krebs is a fourth year student studying Microbiology with minors in Spanish and Biotechnology. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Feed the Pack Food Pantry where she and the student leadership team oversee the day to day operations of the pantry.

Rachel Lechuga

Rachel Lechuga was born in Chicago, Illinois. She received her B.S. from Northern Illinois University in Environmental Studies with a focus in Sustainable and Local Food Systems. For the past years, she has worked as a farmer taking various roles in the production of organic vegetables. In the last year, she moved into a position at Northern Illinois Food Bank working for the online food assistance program, MyPantry Express. She is a dedicated advocate for racial and social justice through reimagining new food systems and frameworks that include those of historically marginalized communities. In her spare time she is in her garden, reading, or preparing and eating food.

Mara Lowry

Mara graduated from NCSU in 2020 with a degree in architecture, and is now applying her design background to food systems at Community Food Lab, a design and planning company that creates change in communities by connecting people, design thinking, and intelligent food system planning.

Bob Patterson

Dr. Patterson, a native of Hickory, NC, received his BS in Soil Science in 1961 and his MS in Soil Science and Plant Physiology in 1963 from NC State College. In 1968, he received his Ph.D. in Agronomy, Biochemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry from Cornell University. He began teaching and conducting research at NCSU in 1968, is a Fulbright Scholar, and took a sabbatical leave at Humboldt University in Berlin to teach graduate plant physiology and conduct Plant water relations research. Dr. Patterson has taught a variety of classes at NCSU, including STS 323 at the Prague Institute in the NCSU study abroad program for 7 summers, and he continues to give guest lectures at Humboldt University each summer.

Ron Pringle

L. Ron Pringle is a graduate of Cross High School and later received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. After high school, he served his country during Desert Storm as a Chaplain's Assistant in the United States Air Force. Ron joined the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast NC (SHFB SENC) in April of 2012 as the Operations Manager after serving over twelve years at the Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston, SC. Starting out as a Warehouse Associate, he worked in many diverse positions within the Food Bank including Agency Relations Director and Director of Operations. It was there he achieved many accommodations, assisted in the development of new partnerships on local and national levels, and established innovative ways of providing services to those underserved. In November 2013, he was named the Food Bank Director of the SHFB of SENC. In May 2020, Ron was announced as the President & CEO of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in Raleigh, NC. Here he continues to serve his community, speaking on behalf of those underserved, improving their quality of life through transformational programs and services.

Julianne Reas

Julianne is a recent NCSU graduate and current AmeriCorps Service Member serving at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. She graduated with a degree in Communication and Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management. While at NC State, Julianne founded and led the National Parks Club, which grew to have over 700 members by the time she graduated. In June 2020, she was hired as a part-time COVID-19 response member and launched the new Gardens for Everyone project in September. Now, she runs the project full-time and applies her passion for connecting people with natural resources in sustainable ways, whether it is National Parks or fresh produce.

Alison Reeves

Alison has managed the NC State Agroecology Education Farm for the past 7 years. She works to build the farm's education and production to NC State and its surrounding communities.

Beth Rosen

Beth has been involved in volunteerism and activist efforts for decades, especially those revolving around inequality and social issues that affect her neighbors, friends, and self. She leads with hope and intention to inspire others and the next generation to find organizations and issues that resonate with them, one person at a time.

Andrew R. Smolski

Andrew R. Smolski is a doctoral candidate in the NCSU Department of Sociology and Anthropology. His research focuses on sustainable agricultural transitions and food and environmental justice in the United States and Latin America.

Sooyoung Uhm

Sooyoung earned a Bachelors in History with an interest in teaching before returning for a Bachelors in Nutrition from the University of Maryland College Park. She completed her dietetic internship at Keene State College and began work as an outpatient dietitian in VT and NH. She moved south for warmer weather and has been working with Student Health Services at NCSU for the last three years.

Jenna Wadsworth

Jenna Wadsworth grew up off a dirt road on her grandparents' farm in Johnston County which raised hogs, cattle, chickens, corn, cotton, tobacco, and soybeans; she now runs the operation with her father. Wadsworth made history in 2010- at the age of 21- by becoming the youngest woman ever elected to political office in NC. For over a decade, she has served the 1.1 million people of Wake County as a Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor and has been Vice-Chair of the Board since 2015. Wadsworth was also the 2020 Democratic Nominee for NC Commissioner of Agriculture and received nearly 2.5 million votes in her race against a sixteen-year incumbent. She ran on a progressive platform of supporting small, family farmers; legalizing cannabis; combating climate change; advocating for farmworkers; and expanding both broadband access and healthcare options in our rural communities.

Erin White

Erin White is a designer, entrepreneur, and planner working for healthy food systems. Trained as an architect, he built Community Food Lab as a hybrid practice at the intersection of design, consulting, and social entrepreneurship to allow free exploration into what it means to design for the human-centered territory of food systems. He is also a co-founder and leader of the Capital Area Food Network, a food council for Wake County.

Sarah Gould Wright

Since 2011, Sarah has worked with TRiO Student Support Services program at NC State. TRiO is a federal program promoting the graduation of under-resourced undergraduate students addressing all things related to academics, finances, culture, career and personal development. In 2017, Sarah and Dr. Mary Haskett created the Pack Essentials Steering Committee to end the hunger and homelessness experienced by NC State students.

Sarah has worked in higher education and with mission focused organizations for over 20 years. She earned a B.S. in Sport Psychology from West Virginia University and a M.Ed. in Athletic Counseling from Springfield College.
