Urvi Shah from Dr. Salvi's lab won 1st place in the Indian Association of Food Protection in North America (IAFPNA) Student Research Competition.
June 2023:
Urvi Shah has been selected as a Ruby Newhall Memorial scholarship recipient for the 2023-24 academic year. The scholarship recognizes international students studying in the U.S. and Canada
Sudarshan Medagam won 2nd place in the IFT Packaging Division Graduate Student Oral Research competition for his work on "Optimization of novel edible coating based on UV-C treated gallic acid and chitosan: antimicrobial efficacy against Salmonella Typhimurium."
Sudarshan Medagam is a recipient of the Ruby Newhall Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year for the second time. The scholarship recognizes international students studying in the U.S. and Canada
May 2023:
Dr. Deepti Salvi, Dhruv Ghevariya, and Dushyanth Kumar Tammineni were inducted into the Phi Tau Sigma (Food Science Honor Society).
Dr. Deepti Salvi guided a project on biodegradable cutlery for the middle school science team Green Girls (Janhawi Patil, Davis Drive Middle School and Shrika Kota, Triangle Math and Science Academy). Their project 'Sustainability Spoon by Spoon' won second place at State Level in ECybermission STEM Competition held by the US Army and The Army Educational Outreach Program.
Sudarshan Medagam from Dr. Deepti Salvi's lab has been selected as a CALS Graduate Peer Mentor for the 2023-2024 academic year.
April 2023:
Dr. Deepti Salvi was selected as a 2022-23 Goodnight Early Career Innovator at NC State. The award was established in 2021 to support early career faculty excellence and to recognize faculty whose scholarship clearly and substantively contributes to innovation and advancement in STEM or STEM education.
Urvi Shah from Salvi Lab has been selected as the honoree of Dr. Gideon “Guy” Livingston Scholarship of Phi Tau Sigma. Dr. Gideon “Guy” Livingston Scholarship of Phi Tau Sigma is given to a student Member of Phi Tau Sigma in honor of the founder of Phi Tau Sigma and to acknowledge the student’s scholastic achievements and dedication to Phi Tau Sigma.
Dhruv Ghevariya received Doung, Green, and Gharst Food Science Leadership Award from Food Science Club at North Carolina State University.
Urvi Shah and Sudarshan Medagam received the Professional Development scholarship from Food Science Club at North Carolina State University.
Urvi Shah received Dr. Wanida Lewis Food Science Fellowship at North Carolina State University.
March 2023:
Salvi lab Welcomes a new post-doctoral researcher Dr. Prasad Chavan. Dr. Chavan received Ph.D. from the Department of Processing and Food Engineering at Punjab Agircultural University, India
December 2022:
Dr. Wen Rivero graduated with a Ph.D. degree and Manveen Kaur Ahuja graduated with an M.S. degree at the Fall 2022 commencement.

Urvi Shah won first place at NC Ag and Life Science (NCALS) Foundation Board Research Competition.
Wen Rivero was selected as a scholarship recipient to attend the 2022 American Meat Science Association student training and education program: Smithfield Foods INTEGRATE.
September 2022:
Wen Rivero won 1st place in the 2022 Envisioning Research by NCSU in the category of Graduate Students and Postdocs, for “Plasma, the Future of Food Safety.” link here and here.
Wen Rivero and Dr. Qingyang Wang presented their posters at the 15th Conference of Food Engineering will be held Sunday – Wednesday, September 18-21, 2022 in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. Dr. Deepti Salvi also presented the research from the lab at the conference.

Sudarshan Medagam presented his poster at the 2022 IUVA Americas Conference, September 26-28, 2022 · Cincinnati, Ohio
Multi-state project (NC-1023: Engineering for Food Safety and Quality) received the 2021 NIFA Partnership Award in the category of 'Mission Integration: Research, Teaching or Extension' for the multi-institutional online seminar course that was offered in Spring 2021. The efforts were led by the University of Maryland and the University of California, Davis and the team consisted of 15 universities including NCSU, where Dr. Salvi was an instructor for the course.
August 2022:
Dr. Salvi's lab hosted 3 undergraduate interns from NDRI India.
July 2022:
Urvi Shah, Wen Rivero, and Dr. Qingyang Wang presented their research at IFT FIRST 2022 at Chicago.
June 2022:

Urvi Shah and Sudarshan Medagam won 1st place in the Think Tank competition of IFT Nonthermal Processing Division. They pitched their solutions to an industry challenge from the industry experts.

Urvi Shah has won 3rd place in the GSA PackPics Infographic competition in the Best Text category.
Wen Rivero received a 1st place award, a 3-min thesis competition, during the 9th Latin American Research Symposium at NCSU. Their presentation was titled "Enhancing growth of hydroponic sweet basil using cold plasma technology"
Wen Rivero was a student presenter during the TEDx at NC, their presentation was titled "Enhancing growth of hydroponic sweet basil using cold plasma technology"
Wen Rivero received the 2022 Chancellor's Creating Community Award for Outstanding Student for their work with the Sustainable Agriculture Graduate Student Association, the GLBT Center at NCSU, the Food Science Club, and the Office of International Services at NCSU
April 2022:
Wen Rivero was awarded a scholarship to attend the 2022 American Meat Science Association (AMSA) student training and education program: Tyson Beyond Fresh Meats (BFM) Short Course, from March 11st-13th at Tyson's Chicago R&D facilities

December 2021:
Wen Rivero Pena was selected as a semi-finalist for the Leader of the Pack 2021 award, which has honored and recognized students' outstanding contributions in leadership, scholarship, and service at NC State dating back to the 1990s. Wen was selected based on their contributions to the GLBT Center's research on LGBTQ+ international students, co-chairing Dairy Bar, and being a small Pack Leader for the Office of International Students at NCSU.

Urvi Shah, was selected in the top 10 finalists to compete in Entrepalooza - NCState's annual entrepreneurship and innovation festival.

Urvi Shah from Dr. Salvi's lab was selected as a scholarship recipient to attend the Women in Agribusiness Summit in September.
Wen Rivero Pena won the Judges Choice Award, 3-Minute thesis competition by International Association for Food Protection- Student Professional Development Group. They presented their thesis entitled "Cold Plasma-Based Technology for Hydroponic Sweet Basil Growth"

Wen Rivero Pena won the third prize during the IFT Nonthermal Processing Division student poster competition held during IFT FIRST, for the work “Comparison of cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAPP) and plasma-activated mist (PAM) for inactivation of E. coli DH5α, Listeria innocua, and Salmonella Typhimurium”

Dr. Qingyang (Carly) Wang received an award for Most Interesting Research Topics at the 9th Annual NC State postdoctoral research symposium organized by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at NCSU. Talk title: A novel disinfectant for foods: Plasma-activated Water (PAW)
Dr. Deepti Salvi was awarded the inaugural Outstanding Postdoc Mentorship Award from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and the Graduate School at the 9th Annual NC State postdoctoral research symposium.
May 2021:
Wen Rivero was awarded 1st place for the Homegrown Award at the PackPics Competition at NC State for their research infographic on "cold-plasma based technology for hydroponic sweet basil growth".
Wen Rivero was awarded 3rd place in a poster presentation competition held during the 8th Latin American Research Symposium at NC State, where they presented research on using plasma-activated water for post-harvest washing of sprouts.
April 2021:

Dr. Qingyang (Carly) Wang was selected for a 2021 Professional Development Award from the NCSU Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) and the Graduate School.
