I'm a PhD student in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at NC State University. I earned my B.S. in Zoology (2020) and M.S. in Biology (2023) from NC State. For my masters, I studied the 24-hour behaviors of the African elephants at the NC Zoo and evaluated individual differences. While I love animal behavior and welfare monitoring, I am equally passionate about science education in both formal and informal settings! My research currently explores the use of participatory science in zoos/museums/aquariums. I'm currently evaluating an animal behavior observation-based activity as a visitor engagement/education and animal behavior monitoring tool!
I enjoy volunteering at community science events like the Marbles Backwards Science Fair. My table titled "Who is Who? What Do They Do?" highlights elephant identification and behavior. Children were able to match the images of elephants and watch videos of what they're up to!
With the help of grad students in the NCSU + NC Zoo masters program, we presented a table at the last State of the Sciences event. We had activities focusing on habitats/ecosystems, ambassador animals, and snake behavior!
I love supporting students through their academic and personal journeys while they complete their undergraduate degrees! It's especially fun as an alumna for both my BS in Zoology (2020) and MS in Biology (2023).
