Advising Tips, Online Resources, Important Information for First Year CALS Students
Every incoming student has a "term advisement" hold on your account (and you will see that hold reappear every semester before enrollment). The "Advising by Major" Sheet will explain who to contact and what you need to do (based on your major) to have the hold removed. We have 12 departments and 16 majors in CALS, so things are handled a little differently depending on your major. For now, use the pages on this site to focus on figuring out what courses you need this fall.
First-year students will be randomly assigned to one of three registration groups. Open seats will be distributed evenly across the groups to ensure fairness. Your group assignment will be viewable May 14 in MyPack Portal.
Mon, June 1 Group 1 registration open 8am-11:59pm
Tues, June 2 Reset day for Group 2 to review available seats
Wed, June 3 Group 2 registration open 8am-11:59pm
Thurs, June 4 Reset day for Group 3 to review available seats
Fri, June 5 Group 3 registration open 8am-11:59pm
Mon, June 8 Open enrollment for continuing and new students
We break this down into a simple 3-step process (review the pages on this site for more info) and remember we're here to help!
(1) Identify → (2) Create → (3) Enroll
Make sure you’re starting in the right courses for your first semester; all CALS students should take the math and chemistry placement tests unless you already know your credit (from a score or grade). Waiting on scores or final grades? You need a placement indicator on file to enroll in classes so you should take the tests.
