What is RDS?
NC Residency Determination Services (RDS) is a form that verifies if a student is a permanent resident of North Carolina. This determines whether you will be eligible for in-state tuition.
Why should I do it?
Failing to complete RDS, or completely RDS incorrectly, will likely deem a student as an out-of-state resident, therefore, making them ineligible for in-state tuition. For many colleges and universities this can make the out-of-state tuition be 3x higher than in-state tuition.
What information will I need?
You will need you and your parents social security number, birth date, and permanent address. You will receive a RCN number after you are determined a NC Resident. Keep this number!! You will need it for College Application.
