A: You can go to the Schedule tab to see our Google Calendar as well as find the link to book an appointment.
Q: What are the general logistics of the Writing Studio?
A: We meet at tables reserved for us outside the Library. Our hours of availability are listed in the Google Calendar on the Schedule tab.
Q: What happens during a Writing Studio consultation?
A: First, the consultant will ask you about the assignment, which stage of writing you’re in, and what you hope to accomplish by the end of the session. Your consultant will not write for you! They may provide you with tools to brainstorm, strategies to help you begin writing, and advice to help revise your draft.
Q: Is this solely for academic writing?
A: No! Feel free to come to the Writing Studio for any kind of writing. Many instructors will assign or suggest creative and short writing assignments. You can also book a consultation if you have self-directed projects or want feedback on personal writing.
Q: Does it only entail feedback from my peers, or can I contact instructors as well?
A: The Writing Studio is largely student-led, as instructors already have their own office hours. However, we will collaboratively write your instructor a note recapping the takeaways from the Writing Studio consultation.
Q: What can I do after a consultation?
A: If after the first meeting you’d like to continue working with a consultant, feel free to schedule another consultation. Remember that the writing must remain your own, but you are always welcome to revise with a consultant.
Q: Who are my Writing Consultants?
A: Read about us on the People page!
Q: Does the Writing Studio accept Walk-ins?
A: Yes (with one condition)! As long as there is not an appointment scheduled with a Writing Consultant at that time, feel free to drop by and ask questions or get help with your writing. The Writing Studio accepts walk-ins, but appointments are given priority.
Q: Where is the Writing Studio?
A: Writing Studio consultants will meet with appointments and accept walk-ins during their scheduled times in the chairs by the windows on the east side of the library.
