Check here each week after hall meeting for need to know information, campus updates, and upcoming events.
The latest update will always be on this page and you can find past hall meeting minutes linked below or in the navigation bar dropdown menu.
Early Check
We offer early check because we want to give tired & sick students an option for signing check when they want to go to bed before 10pm or 11pm. Students misusing early check, (e.g., signing early check because of not wanting 'to be bothered' to sign check later in the night) is not acceptable. If we can't trust that students who sign early check are going to bed, we may stop offering early check. Accounting for all students at check is one of the School's most important tasks we do every day and we appreciate you all during your part to make that go smoothly.
In-building curfew & Check
You cannot leave your building after check without a CC or Campus Security under any circumstance. You cannot and should not ever open any exterior door to let someone into your building. Related, make sure you are taking your trash out, gathering belongings, or handling any errands across campus before in-building curfew. After-check programs require you to depart & return with a CC, if you are ever needing a CC to escort you please reach out to your CC, the hosting CC, or one of the desks across campus.

3BR Hall Reminders & Guidelines
During Room Inspections & Hall Meetings, off-hall guests are not allowed on hall. You are not required to be in room or to lock your door for room inspections. You are only subject to fail room inspection if you have 2+ items that need to be addressed. All hall meetings are required unless we have spoken 1:1 about you missing , otherwise, early check is also not allowed on hall meeting night.
Fall Break Fridges & Electronics
While you are not required to unplug/defrost your fridge for this break, be sure to clean out all food that won't be good in a week to avoid having to deal with gross stuff when you return! You should also be sure to take out all trash and clean all dirty dishes before you head out.
Royall is CLOSED for student leisurely use
Royall should only be accessed to meet with your counselor or the Chancellor. The rest of the rest of the building is off limits. The lounge is not open for student use.
Hunt Kitchen CLOSES Friday, Oct 2nd
Hunt Kitchen closes at noon on Friday 10/2 for the break. When you use Hunt Kitchen, be sure to clean up after yourself as soon as you are done; turn off all ovens, wipe the countertops, wash your dishes and take them with you. If we can't work together to take care of the space, we may have to close it sooner.
Extended Reminders & Protocol
Residence halls will be closing for Extended at 5:00pm on Friday, Oct 2nd and reopen at noon on Sunday, October 11th at 12pm noon. Students whose rides will arrive later than 5:00pm on Friday are asked to wait with their belongings in Bryan Lobby.
By 10am this Wednesday, Sept 30th all students must submit an Overnight Orah pass for their extended weekend travel plans.
You should always indicate where you are going for the break by address, who you are traveling with, and how you are getting to your destination (Train, Car, Bus, etc). If you have specific questions about checkout procedures for extended weekends, you should speak to me or a CC on duty.
***Any students going somewhere other than home, leaving or coming back another day other than Friday or the Monday of break or after check, and/or leaving with an individual other than a legal guardian will ABSOLUTELY MUST to check out with a CC at Bryan desk before leaving campus, in addition to filling out their Orah pass.
If you are going home for break via Amtrak or Greyhound bus, please submit a pass in Orah, select "Train" or "Bus" as the mode of transportation, and stop by Bryan desk to schedule transportation to the train/bus station. Remember to submit your pass at least 48 hours in advance.
Extended Charter Buses - All four charter buses (Asheville, Charlotte North, Charlotte South, and Wilmington) will load in Watts Circle on Friday Oct 2nd. The buses will be on site at 3:15 to begin loading. Buses will depart at 3:45. Please pack what you want to take home before the last class of the day. Students may bring two large bags and a backpack. Staff members will check you in as you board your individual bus. If you are unsure whether you are registered to ride, please email charterbuses@ncssm.edu.
Give the Student Clinic Feedback
Every time you make a clinic appointment, you receive a link to give anonymous feedback about your experience. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts about your experience in order to share kudos and/or areas of improvement.
if you have read to the bottom of these hall meeting notes, GChat Kira the ✌🏼 emoji by Oct 12th for 1 room inspection pass to use this semester.
Signing Out & Creating Orah Passes
Anytime you are missing check, signing out overnight, or traveling 30+ miles from campus, you have to sign out with the CC on duty. It is not enough for your family to just approve your pass, we need to confirm the ID of the person picking you up vs. what your family approved and to activate your pass. It is also not sufficient to rely on the fact that you can just call Bryan desk, this should only occur in the event that circumstances have changed while away from campus (coming back a different day or suddenly missing check).

Royall is CLOSED for student leisurely use

Safety & Updates
You should not be using roller skates, skateboards, bikes, or other various wheeled vehicles inside. If you are going to roller skate, be sure you are not wearing them indoors (change shoes when you come back inside). This keeps you and your hallmates safe!
Not having a punishment in your fantasy sports league keeps the game focused purely on friendly competition and bragging rights. Only positive rewards at the end of the season! There cannot be any humiliating or embarrassing tasks for last-place or poor performers.
Double and triple check that you have turned off the stoves and ovens when you are done in the kitchen.
