Inside the Probes

Our probes work by using multiple circuits that each power different components that measure different variables in the atmosphere. 

One example of a circuit we are using controls a gas sensor that monitors the amount of different types of gases. In this circuit, we connected the gas measurements to a tri-color LED light and coded the circuit to ensure that when the moles of gas are below 375, the light is green, showing that it is safe to breathe the air. When the moles of gas are between 375 and 500 the light will turn blue, signifying that it is safe to breathe but may have harmful contaminants. Finally, if the moles are above 500, the light will turn red, to tell you the gas is dangerous and not to breathe it. This is the most important sensor in our Quality Air probe, but there are other circuits in both the Quality Air and Quality Water probes.

The circuit mentioned is shown below. 

 Some of the sensors in the water probe include PH (acidity), temperature, and DO (Dissolved Oxygen). 

We also have an attachment for the probes that is a single cell of a solar panel, called a solar cell. This solar cell allows you to use the probes without attaching them to your phone and instead leave them out in the sunlight for a short time before use, converting energy from the sun into power for the probe.
