These are the overall expectations and guidelines for students traveling on a charter bus during Extended Weekends/Breaks. Please note that some guidelines may vary slightly per charter bus (such as number of luggage items). If you have a question regarding a guideline for your charter bus, please contact your appropriate bus coordinator or charterbuses@ncssm.edu.
Seats on buses are first come first serve, with some buses offering waitlists in the event a student is no longer a rider.
You must pay the deposit in order to secure your spot on the bus. Spots cannot be held without payment.
Deposits are due before a student can ride, with the remainder of the balance paid at a set date by NCSSM.
These dates may be before the first Extended Weekend, so please check your family NCSSM email account for invoices and updates.
Safety is to be maintained at all times while on the bus. Students exhibiting behaviors that could jeopardize the safety of their fellow students and driver will be removed from the bus and no longer allowed to ride. These behaviors can include but are not limited to:
Yelling or screaming
Using overtly obscene language or racial slurs
"Rough-housing" with fellow riders
Throwing objects or using projectiles
Sticking any part of the body out of the windows
Causing a distraction to the bus driver
Causing a distraction to other drivers on the road
Sexual misconduct
Physical violence/assault against a fellow student or bus driver
Students are asked to not bring more than 2 bags with them when they travel. This number may be reduced if they are on a smaller bus due to space.
When returning to NCSSM, if students are not at their designated stop on time, the bus driver will leave due to scheduling constraints and parents/guardians will have to arrange alternate transportation for their student.
Remain seated at all times unless it is to use the restroom (if the bus has one).
Help keep the bus clean, sanitary, and orderly. Throw away any trash accumulated and do not damage any of the bus seats or equipment.
Please remain out of the driver's seat and refrain from unnecessary conversation with the driver while the bus is in motion.
Students are not allow to leave the bus without the driver's permission, except on arrival to their assigned stop or upon returning to NCSSM.
If traveling on buses that stop for meal breaks, students must remain within the vicinity of the bus and return by the established departure time.
