Welcome To Our New Teachers!

My name is Richard Butler, and I am the New Teacher Chair for the High School Choral Section. I want to welcome those of you who have been teaching for less than 3 years in North Carolina or if you are new to the state. We have a lot of exciting events that go on throughout the year and I am here to guide you. I will be glad to find someone in your county or surrounding county to serve as your mentor. That mentor would be someone you could call on if you have a question. I believe that it would be beneficial to set you up with a mentor so that you do not feel overwhelmed with all of your new responsibilities.

Please make sure that you join the North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA). Joining NCMEA allows you and your students to participate in many events scheduled throughout the school year.

Once you join NCMEA, students enrolled in your choral program will be able to participate in Eastern or Western Regional Chorus, North Carolina Honors Chorus, Solo and/or Small Ensemble Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) and Large Choral MPA, the Young Composer Showcase, and performance at Fall Conference. Being a part of NCMEA also allows you to network with others in your profession.
