Each year, two to three high school choirs and one collegiate choir of outstanding quality are selected from the pool of applicants to perform a twenty five minute concert at the annual NCMEA Conference. Performing at conference is an incredible learning experience for both students and conductors and an opportunity to showcase excellent choral music education from around the state.
In order to be eligible to apply, directors must have been in their current teaching position for three years. They must also be a current NCMEA member at the time of application and performance. As a part of the online registration process, directors must submit at least three recordings for review. These recordings must be in mp3 format and a recording from each of the last three years should be included. If you are submitting to perform for the 2025 conference, your recordings should include one recording from the 2024-2025 school year, one from the 2023-2024 school year and one from the 2022-2023 school year. There will be a limit of eight recordings from the previous three years allowed.
Please ensure that there is no mention of School, Director, or Ensemble name in your recordings. If you are using recordings from MPA that have your school or ensemble name announced at the start, please make appropriate cuts to your recordings so that information is omitted.
All application materials are due by midnight on May 1. Submissions will then be sent to a blind panel for review and selection. Directors will be notified of application results by June 1.
