Intensive Interventions for Remediation
Tier 3
Tier 3
Students who are not progressing on a skill or standard during Tier 2 interventions might need a more intensive and individualized intervention. The percentage of this group of students should be relatively small. If you are seeing a large portion of your Tier 2 students not progressing, then consider the issue the intervention/instructional strategy being used. However, if 5% of your students are still unable to master the skill or standard, then it is time to consider Tier 3, intensive interventions. This is much more individualized to the student and is meant to help fill instructional gaps that a students has accrued over the years. Tier 3 requires teacher teams to recommend a student(s) to the MTSS team with data to support the need. The MTSS team then places that student with the appropriate resources and support in order to begin filling gaps. This Tier is not meant as a gateway to EC services. Tier 3 is strictly to help fill gaps and get the student back into Tier 2 interventions and Tier 1. Further, a Tier 3 student will still need support in Tier 1 and Tier 2.
Below are the necessary forms and data tracking sheets to recommend a student to Tier 3 interventions.
