Month of the Military Child

Moore County is home to military families assigned to Fort Bragg, Pope Army Airfield, and Camp Mackall. Moore County Schools recognizes the service of our military families and has a tradition of celebrating the Month of the Military Child recognizing our smallest heroes. The district recognized the Month of the Military Child each April.

What is Purple Up! for Military Kids? As part of celebrating the Month of the Military Child, we encourage everyone to wear something purple on April 8th in observance of Purple Up! for Military Kids Day AND post photos online using the following hashtags #purpleupmcs #purpleup #MOMC #purpleupschoolinitials

Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military. Purple is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue. Moore County Schools would like to see lots of purple across the district on April 8th, as a sort of salute to these smallest heroes—our military kids.

Ideas for how schools can easily participate and celebrate Month of the Military Child:

  1. Participate in Purple Up! For Military Kids - April 8th #purpleupmcs #purpleup #MOMC

  2. Reshare district social media MOMC posts including Daily Mini Facts and Staff Spotlights

  3. Place an announcement on school marquees.

  4. Use your school website and social media accounts to share military student stories and artwork.

  5. Showcase stories and books about military kids or military life online.

  6. Highlight your campus S2S/JS2S program and activities throughout the month.

  7. Staff Members can access the MCS Military Student Resources Folder for more MOMC ideas.
