I live in SE Portland with my partner, our dog, 4 chickens and about 10,000 honey bees. Our hobbies include camping, cooking from the garden, sailing, kayaking, caving, contra and swing dancing, beekeeping, and singing/playing Irish folk music.
I began teaching overseas in China as an English teacher during college and fell in love with it! I have since worked as a teacher in Thailand, Burma (Myanmar), South Korea, Dubai, Peru and Bolivia prior to moving to Portland. I spent several years working for Trackers Earth and Portland Public before going back to school for my Masters of Teaching in 2016. After I completed my masters I moved to North Clackamas School District. This is my third year at View Acres and fifth year working with 5th graders. Such an incredible age!
I bring a very diverse background to the classroom. I am a lover of hands on activities and the arts. Before becoming a teacher full time I was many things; a wilderness survival guide in Virginia, New Mexico and Oregon, a caving instructor in West Virginia, a spider monkey caretaker in Bolivia, a natural building construction worker in many places around the globe, an archeologist assistant in Xian and cultural interpreter for the Arizona State museum, a tortilla delivery person and many other smaller jobs like serving coffee and hotel front desks. My biggest claims to fame are having served President Obama an omelet while working in DC, delivering room service to Will Smith in while working at Marriott in Arizona and babysitting one of the former Simba actors from the broadway musical Lion King.
