Choir Handbook

Welcome to Choir at RPHS!

My mission is to empower students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to independently and collaboratively create, perform, and appreciate a wide variety of music and its context. When you graduate from the Rex Putnam Choir Department, you will be ready for a lifetime of music-making, whether that includes university music study, membership in a community choir, or any other professional or avocational music pursuits. I am confident in our abilities to adapt, create, grow, connect, and make beautiful music for each other and our community.

Learning Objectives:

Music objectives are based on standards published by the National Association for Music Education and the Oregon State Music Standards. Together we will:

• Build a caring community that uses music as an opportunity to genuinely connect

• Sing confidently and harmoniously

• Read and write music in Western music notation

• Build skills in music literacy and vocal technique

• Engage with issues of world importance through a musical lens
