Well Hello Future Herons! Principal Broadous here! I am so excited that you will be joining the "Blue Heron Nest" in the fall. You will find that HVMS is cool place with amazing teachers and staff who care about you and your well being.
This is my 23rd year in education and still find joy in working on behalf of students to reach their fullest potential. I believe that education is the key that unlock doors. It has the power to take us beyond our wildest dreams while at the same time, putting us in positions to impact the lives of others. That is "why" I have stayed in this profession.
As you enter the doors of HVMS in the coming months, I think there are three things you need to know about me:

I LOVE to chat, so when you see me in the hallways, don't hesitate to say hello and I'll do the same!

Hello Heron students and families! Mr. Mulligan here and I just wanted to extend a virtual welcome to you all! HVMS is a truly special place and we have some of the best staff who are here to support you how ever we can.
I am entering my 14th year in education and still am blown away by the amazing students I interact with. Access to a quality education is so important for all students to succeed and this is what drives me in my work. A quote that I live by both at work and in my personal life is from Maya Angelou who said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Building positive and collaborative relationships with students families, and staff is crucial in ensuring a community that is welcoming of ALL students.
When I am not working, I am spending with my wife, son, our two dogs, and cat. I love bbqing, watching Oregon Duck football games, fly fishing, and exploring our beautiful state!

This is my 9th year in the North Clackamas School district and my 3rd year at Happy Valley Middle School and I am so grateful to be a part of such an amazing community at HVMS. I was previously at Alder Creek Middle School and taught Leadership Skills, Language Arts and was the Behavioral Specialist in the building. In addition, I was the Dean of students for a year with a focus on restorative practices and behavioral management.
My background has led me to my “why” and that is I believe in equitable outcomes for all students. As an administrator my job is to ensure equitable practices, high expectations and inclusivity for all students. It is my job to remove barriers and promote an environment that supports student identity, celebrates diversity and gives students a voice. I have a firm belief all students regardless of race, ethnicity, family economics, mobility, language, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, initial proficiencies or religion have the right to an inclusive environment, a rigorous education and positive relationships.

This will be my 29th year in the North Clackamas District. Prior to coming to North Clackamas, I started my career as an elementary teacher in San Bernardino, California. When I started my career in North Clackamas, I worked as a middle school teacher and soon realized how much I wanted to focus on the social/emotional/mental health needs of my students. I received my Masters in School Counseling and worked as an elementary counselor for 10 years at Lewelling, Campbell, and later, Mount Scott Elementary. I love to help students of all ages but I do have a passion for working with middle school students and their families. I transitioned to Happy Valley Middle where I have been a counselor for 9 years.
This year is starting differently and you may have added questions and needs. I am here to answer questions and support the academic and social/needs of all of my students so please feel free to reach out to me!
Outside of school, I love the outdoors and particularly love to camp and hike. I also love music- listening, playing, and singing!

I am a first-year school counselor, having just graduated from Lewis and Clark this summer with my M.Ed. in School Counseling. Prior to my counseling program, I ran a youth development program in a PPS middle school in North Portland, was an Educational Assistant in the Gresham-Barlow SD, an AVID tutor, a mentor to incarcerated youth, and worked with other youth and family non-profits. I'm excited to join the North Clackamas district and be a part of the HVMS community!
While I wish we could all be together in person, I can't wait to connect with each of you to get to know you and your families. Building relationships with students and families is what guides my work as a counselor, and it's the most meaningful part of my job - so please don't hesitate to reach out! I'll be reaching out to you too.
When I'm not working, I like to work on my travel trailer with my spouse, watch Netflix with my cat, Yumi, and sing karaoke loudly with my friends.

Before coming to HVMS, I worked as an elementary school counselor for 10 years at a combination of schools including Mount Scott, Happy Valley, Sojourner, and Spring Mountain Elementary Schools. This is my eleventh year at Happy Valley Middle School. Before I was a school counselor, I worked in the Adventure Therapy world and was a Family Therapist for The Morrison Center and Clackamas County Mental Health.
I pretty much enjoy anything outdoors so maybe I will run into you at the ocean, on the Mountain (Timberline) on a river or lake, or some bike trail. This could be a challenging year so please build caring supports into your life and keep reaching out.
