I have taught Second Step lessons to all grade levels at our school. At this time Second Step is providing a lot of SEL resources on their website, including recorded lessons about managing strong emotions and other social-emotional topics that your students may need support with right now.
Mindfulness is a great tool for us to feel grounded and to regulate our emotions and bodies. It also helps build skills for focus and attention. Here are some free resources for doing mindfulness at home:
Mind Yeti - Mind Yeti has fifteen mindfulness program sessions available for anyone to use, no experience necessary! Mind Yeti provides a great way for everyone to practice mindfulness during this difficult time.
Calm - Calm Together is offering free access to many of their favorite mindfulness resources including sleep stories, movement exercises, and journals.
Kids have feelings, just like adults do. Sometimes they aren't able to recognize or put a name to those emotions. Instead they may act out them out in problematic ways. Helping kids identify and name their feelings is the first step in teaching them to cope with those feelings in positive and healthy ways. This article has great tips.
Journaling is a great way for kids to process emotions and express their feelings. Give your child a prompt and let them express themselves through writing.
