Most illustrated manuscripts of La sfera share a standard set of diagrams and maps; with over 160 manuscripts to keep track of, it can be hard to remember which is which. This page provides thumbnails of the 2-page map of the Eastern Mediterranean that normally accompanies Book 3, stanzas 16–21, for the 52 illustrated manuscripts for which we currently have digital images. (It doesn't include unillustrated manuscripts, illustrated manuscripts that have no maps, or manuscripts for which we have no digital images.) This array will give general viewers a sense of how the manuscripts are visually similar and/or different from one another, while at the same time providing project team members with an aide-memoire or visual index to particular manuscripts.

These last two images come from auction catalogues, and contain images from copies of La sfera that we know of, but have lost track of. Anyone with information as to the current whereabouts of these manuscripts is encouraged to email Carrie Beneš at benes [at] ncf.edu.
Image from the Lier & Co. sale catalogue of 1924. MS last known as Tall Tree Library MS 1, owned by G.H. Beans of Jenkintown (PA), per de Ricci 1937.
Paper MS ca. 1470). 32 ff. (28 X 20 cm). The last five pages have been used for transcribing a portion of a herbal in Italian, with drawings of medicinal plants.
Note also the idiosyncratic map label of "Nesopotania" for "Mesopotamia."
Image from the Sotheby's catalogue of 1971. MS was formerly in the possession of Boies Penrose of Devon (PA), per Faye/Bond 1962.
Paper MS ca. 1450. 24 ff. (28 x 20 cm). Bound in old vellum.
This MS would be recognizable by its unusually rounded humanistic hand, a product of the same scribe as Morgan MS M.721.
