SMS Summer Reading 🌞

Dear Families,

Shaker Middle School’s summer reading program is designed to support  a wide variety of reading interests, and offers students access to both digital and print texts to promote a love of reading.  Please help your child to select at least two titles from the interactive, grade level descriptions, or from the audio books. 

English teachers also created the Summer Reading Challenge, a bingo game that contains daily activities for promoting fun-filled reading and writing activities for summer days. We hope all students will take advantage of the diverse list of titles and text selections, and that independent reading will be a summer highlight for your child. Research tells us that reading during the summer bolsters students’ comprehension skills, and we know that having choice and agency allows students the freedom to discover favorite genres and authors.

Our Shaker Middle School librarians and English teachers will spend time in June assisting students in selecting summer reading books, and sharing resources from the summer reading website. Please encourage your child to work with teachers to find a book before leaving for vacation.
