Homework 

Homework Expectations:

1. Students will complete their homework promptly so that they may show it to the teacher on the day that it is due.

2. Students will write their homework in their planners with clear descriptions of what the assignment requires.

3. The work will be neat and clearly presented, as modelled in the classroom.

Weekly Snapshot

• Math: We continued our study of order of operations, as well as writing and solving "expressions" and "equations."

• Literature: We began a literature unit examining the foundations of Greek mythology, including an orientation to the major characters of mythology which will help orient students to places and subplots in our forthcoming novel unit, The Children's Homer.

• History: We finished a World Deserts unit and began a focused geographical and overview of ancient civilizations centered around the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and the Mediterranean Sea.  

• Science: We continued our study of plate tectonics. This week's focus was on Alfred Wegener and the continental drift theory. In the upcoming weeks, we will continue to study plate tectonics and its effects on volcanoes and earthquakes. 

• Grammar & Literacy: We began the year with reviews of the four types of sentences, the eight parts of grammar, and are systematically making our way through the 28 spelling rules. We also reviewed diagramming of a simple sentence. 

• Composition: We began the groundwork for a one-paragaraph summary about the "Ring of Fire" and discussed expectations of expository writing in 6th grade.
