Students and parents should not underestimate the value of college entrance exams. Tests such as the SAT, ACT, and CLT continue to play a significant role in college admissions and, more importantly, in the awarding of merit-based scholarships. While many colleges now offer test-optional admissions policies, strong test scores can still make a substantial difference when it comes to institutional aid, competitive scholarships, and national recognition programs.
Additionally, the ASVAB, offered annually to students in grades 10 - 12, is a powerful career aptitude tool. Far from just a military entrance exam, it helps identify natural strengths, highlights areas for academic improvement, and unlocks civilian career pathways that best fit a student's unique skills.
In order to graduate, Colorado students must demonstrate Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness in both English and Math by meeting minimum scores from a "Menu of Options". We provide assessments for two of these options:
SAT:
English (Reading, Writing, and Communicating) - minimum score of 470
Mathematics - minimum score of 480 (Temporary extension through class of 2027)
ASVAB:
minimum of 31 on the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT)
Preparing for and taking these types of assessments builds essential life skills like resilience, time management, and self-discipline. While it measures academic readiness, the rigorous process of studying for it acts as a character-building exercise that teaches students how to set goals, overcome setbacks, and perform under pressure.
Concurrent Enrollment is defined as the simultaneous enrollment of a qualified student in a local education provider and in one or more post secondary courses, including academic or career and technical education courses, which may include coursework related to apprenticeship programs or internship programs, at an institution of higher education. As part of our growing post-graduate program, we are creating a database of Archers parents, friends and family who would be interested in mentoring a high school student in a professional field. If you are interested in participating in this program, Click HERE.
"There are things that are bigger and more worthwhile than the things we see about us, the things we live and strive for. Let us stand on tiptoe, forgetting the nearer things, and grasp what we may."
