Happy Spring Break. We took a CMAS prep test today. It was a new experience to take the exam on chromebooks. The students did well. CMAS is scheduled to begin April 6th. We will take just one section of the test each morning, so students should expect regular classes the rest of the day and the usual homework.
Our field trip to the Denver Science Museum is scheduled for April 24th. Details about the trip and signups for drivers and chaperones will be sent out later in March. Shout out to Mrs. Burley for organizing this trip for our class.
Please consider reading 'Frederick Douglass' along with your student. It is a firsthand account of slavery in the 1800's including savage brutality, adultery, murder, and women being used as 'breeders.' Both my daughters read this book as 5th graders at Ridgeview, and it was included in our first year curriculum at Ascent. At some point, the selection was moved to 7th or 8th grade. This year, it returns again to 5th grade. Douglass' account, written at risk of his life and freedom, helped shape the course of history - strengthening the resolve of many to end the wicked practice of human slavery. I would love your help in navigating this book with your student and hope it will have a lifelong impact on all of us to fight for vulnerable and enslaved people - many of whom are children.
Blessings on your spring break!
Gratefully,
Kim Patawaran
