Birthdays & Holidays
We will not be distributing birthday or holiday treats or invitations in class. Please use the school directory to reach families you'd like to invite to events.
We will celebrate birthdays once a month, to honor students whose birthdays occur that month. Summer birthdays are celebrated at the end of May.
Our school, and 2nd grade in particular, love to host events that correspond with our curriculum, such as Wonder Day, Pioneer Day, Immigration Day, The Olympics, etc. Therefore, we typically do not celebrate holidays that do not correspond with the curriculum. We highly recommend planning a class gathering outside of school to celebrate!
Dress Code
We will be enforcing dress code policies in class. The purpose of the dress code is to
help students feel put together, and to show respect for their role at the school. It also
helps create an orderly and peaceful environment, free from distractions. If you are not
sure of all the details, click here.
Homework
Grey Folders
These folders are used for sending home class work and paper notices and announcements.
Students will bring them home everyday whether or not they are carrying any classwork or documents.
The right pocket is for papers that stay at home.
The left pocket is for papers that need to be signed and sent back with your child.
Students will keep their reading logs and math fact packets in the left pocket to be signed and returned on Mondays.
Reading Homework
Please help your child read 20 minutes on every night.
Please sign the reading log in their gray folder on those night and have students return them on Mondays.
Math Homework:
Students will have one page (front and back) of math fact practice every night. Please have your child spend no more than 5 minutes on each page. Mastering these facts through repetition will serve students for their whole academic careers!
Snacks
Snack time is a quick 10 minutes.
Please pack a small and nutritious snack for your child.
Ensure that snacks are peanut and tree nut free for the safety of students with allergies.
We will have new carpet in our room, so please send snacks that are easy to clean up.
Volunteering
We will have many opportunities for volunteering throughout the year. We will send out requests in advance, requesting either supplies to be donated, or time spent in the classroom helping out. The biggest need is during our special event days, such as Wonder Day. Please watch for more information on getting approved to volunteer at our school, and also specific details about the events. Thank you for your willingness to help in our class!
