APEL.C is a structured assessment process that recognizes and evaluates an individual’s prior formal, non-formal, and informal learning gained through life and work experiences—when these are relevant to specific courses within a program of study. Through this evaluation, eligible learning experiences are converted into academic credits, enabling learners to accelerate the completion of their academic program.
The credits awarded under APEL.C are ungraded; therefore, they do not involve grade transfers and are excluded from the computation of GPA and CGPA. Additionally, APEL.C credits cannot be applied to final-year projects or dissertations.
A maximum of 30% of the total graduating credits for any given program may be earned through the APEL.C credit award mechanism.
WHY TAKE APEL.C?
APEL.C allows learners to convert their prior work and life experiences into academic credits, reducing the number of courses required. This helps save both time and tuition fees while completing a programme more quickly.
It formally acknowledges the knowledge and skills gained through employment, training, or self-learning, giving learners academic credit for what they already know and can demonstrate.
By obtaining recognized academic qualifications through APEL.C, individuals can enhance their career prospects, qualify for promotions, or pursue higher-level studies with confidence.
APEL.C serves as an ideal pathway for a diverse group of learners, such as:
Working professionals who possess experience relevant to a particular programme of study.
Individuals with prior training or workshop participation that corresponds to the learning outcomes of the programme.
Learners with practical skills and knowledge gained through non-formal or informal learning experiences.
There is no age restriction for APEL.C applicants. However, candidates must be enrolled as students at a Malaysian higher education institution and must be able to demonstrate mastery of at least 50% of the course learning outcomes to qualify for credit consideration.
