Program Placement
During initial enrollment, the parent or guardian completes the Home Language Survey. Eligibility for the ESL program is determined based on these assessment results.
ESL/Bilingual services may consist of the following
ESL and/or Bilingual teachers provide our language instruction, and we continually monitor our student language and academic progress in all content areas. Our Bilingual and ESL staff collaborate with the content teachers to ensure that our students are given the language support and resources they need in the classroom.
Multilingual Learner Individualized Learning Plans
ML Individualized Learning Plans are instructional plans updated annually for all multilingual students in the ESL program. Plans include WIDA test scores, classroom modifications, assessment accommodations, and specific ESL instructional services information.
Annual Testing: ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Assessment
New Jersey requires all Multilingual learners to take the ACCESS 2.0 English Language Proficiency Assessment each winter. The ACCESS test assesses English learners' academic speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Assessment results are shared with teachers, students, and parents
Exiting the ESL Program
Multilingual learners must attain an overall/composite score of 4.5 or higher on the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 assessment or the WIDA Model to exit the ESL program.
Support for Exiting Students
Students who exit the ESL program are monitored for two academic years. Academic support may be provided for students who exit the program.
