Problem of Practice: How can we use play and/or games to foster technological independence across all content areas?
District: Long Beach
School: Lindell Elementary
Facilitator: Jolynn Sapia
Principal: Jennifer Pullara
Teachers: Danielle Goggin, Mary Miller, Kelly Mooney, Lauren Muscarella, Lisa Rundo
The group decided on using Green Screen, Beebots and Scratch Jr. The Facilitator met with the teachers as well as the students, and demonstrated each tool at 3 different meetings. Teachers observed and assisted as students and teachers alike learned the various tools. Teachers decided to use the topic "Community," as this would be rolled out with 2nd grade students. The three projects consisted of:
To create a Green Screen video while students spoke about their favorite place in their community.
Students use Scratch Jr. to write code about their favorite community.
To learn to program BeeBots to find various places in their community. (4th grade students assisted in this project by taking pictures of various places in the community on mobile devices, and uploading them to a shared folder.)
