Our mission is to remove the barriers that Black people experience getting access to or staying connected with emotional health care and healing through education, training, advocacy, and the creative arts. We center our work around a healing justice framework. Healing justice is a framework, developed by Cara Page and the Kindred Healing Justice Collective, that identifies how we can intervene and holistically respond to generational trauma and violence.
Safe Black Space Community Healing Circles started in April 2018 in response to increased racial tensions and trauma after the killing of Stephon Clark, an unarmed 22 year old Black man, by the Sacramento Police. Meant to provide a chance for Black people to deal with the rage, shock, fear, and sadness that so many of us were (and are) feeling. Safe Black Space is for people who self-identify as being of African ancestry and who are experiencing racial stress, anxiety, and/or trauma. Currently, its gatherings and resources are designed for adults and youth who are at least 14 years old.
Therapy for Black Girls is an online space dedicated to encouraging the mental wellness of Black women and girls. Dr. Joy Harden Bradford is a licensed psychologist, speaker and the host of the wildly popular mental health podcast, Therapy for Black Girls. Her work focuses on making mental health topics more relevant and accessible for Black women and she delights in using pop culture to illustrate psychological concepts.
We want to break the stigma that asking for help is a sign of weakness. With a rapidly growing directory of 434 therapists and 43 coaches throughout the fifty states thus far, we are here to provide judgment-free, multiculturally-competent care to Black men.
You don’t have to man up. Let’s talk it through together.
The Loveland Foundation is the official continuation of this effort to bring opportunity and healing to communities of color, and especially to Black women and girls. Through fellowships, residency programs, listening tours, and more, ultimately we hope to contribute to both the empowerment and the liberation of the communities we serve.
The My Therapy Cards deck is not just another deck of self-care. This card deck has been carefully curated by a psychologist woman of color with the intention of helping other women of color grow and elevate in the areas of emotional and mental health! Dr. Ebony is bringing the therapy office to your doorstep and expanding the convo about mental health. Now you can engage in real self-discovery using real therapy techniques, instead of social media fluff.
InnoPsych was birthed from Dr. Jackman’s own experiences and challenges during her search for a therapist. As she searched through website after website there were either too few therapists listed to choose from and/or there was no way to filter lists by ethnicity. Whenever she did find someone that she liked who fit the criteria, they were either “not taking new clients” or they did not take her insurance.
She knew that there needed to be a simpler and faster way for people of color to find therapists of color and she was going to create it!
Our vision is to improve mental health in Black communities by building culturally-competent resources, programs, and education across the country. Our mission is to create new ways of healing in Black communities, clearing pathways that allow People of Color to see what their lives look like on the other side of suffering. We help you choose your joy over everything.
