On January 19, 2025 a Spirit of King Community Worship Service hosted by the Hickory Area Ministers and the Greater Hickory Ministerial Alliance was held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr..
A highlight of the annual service is recognizing individuals and organizations who have embodied the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr..
The Organization of the Year was awarded to New Beginnings Hickory, a new organization with a long history in the Hickory community. At their Main Ave location, whether known as the Flynn Home, Hope Valley, or now as New Beginnings, their mission has always been to help those recovering from alcoholism and drug abuse. Since 2021, they have provided a safe, structured, and therapeutic 20 bed program for men in recovery needing to learn a new way to live and to transition back into the community. Sarah Prencipe who serves on the New Beginnings board of directors said, "This was a great event and we are grateful for this recognition of our work in the Hickory community."
