August 2025
Dear NBFA Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the remaining weeks of summer with your children. On behalf of the entire NBFA staff, I want to express how excited we are to welcome both new and returning families to a year filled with learning, meaningful experiences, and tremendous growth.
Our school year will officially begin on Thursday, August 28, with an early dismissal at 12:00 p.m. Please ensure your child is present and ready to start the year strong!
As we prepare for the year ahead, I encourage you to read and review NBFA’s Family Handbook together with your child/ren prior to the first day of school. In particular, take time to discuss our core values—Empathy, Responsibility, and Pride—and talk about what it looks like to embody these values not just in school, but also at home and in everyday life, especially during challenging moments.
Empathy: This means students will show consideration for others.
Responsibility: This means students will show up prepared to engage in the learning process and make thoughtful choices daily.
Pride: This means students will intentionally take care of themselves, each other, and school resources/property by displaying safe, appropriate, and acceptable behaviors.
In addition to our schoolwide values there are expectations that we hold dear. These expectations, when met, ensure your child's continuous growth and overall success.
Exceptional Attendance: Consistent, on-time attendance builds strong learning habits and helps students stay actively engaged, setting them up for academic success. School doors open at 7:20 a.m. Students arriving after 7:35 a.m. will be marked tardy. To support your child’s success, please schedule vacations, appointments, and other absences during school closure days. Refer to the 2025-2026 school calendar that is attached to plan ahead.
Student Effort & Participation: Every child can succeed when they put their BEST effort forth each day. Active participation improves critical academic skills and allows for teachers to ascertain how much and how well students are learning. For this reason, students are expected to display effort in completing both school and homework assignments.
Cooperative Students: Students are expected to follow the directives of any school personnel in accordance to being safe, self-controlled, and/or engaged in the learning process.
Consistent Parent Engagement: Research shows that active parent engagement in schools is closely linked to better student behavior, higher academic achievement, and enhanced social skills. For this reason, be sure you make every effort to get involved and to come out to as many school events as possible—open house, conference nights, academic showcases, academic themed nights, recitals and field trips. Parental involvement sets students up to develop a lifelong love for learning and is an essential key to long-term success.

Visit NBFA between August 18 -August 27 between 8:15 AM 03:15 PM to collect a school-issued student dismissal ID and backpack tags for K-5th grade students.
Student dismissal IDs are needed to expedite the dismissal process for students who are picked up at the carline or for early dismissal. Those who do not have a school-issued student dismissal ID will have to present a state-issued ID, which will then have to be verified in our database. Save time by getting your child’s school-issued dismissal ID!
We kindly ask that all K-5 students arrive on the first day of school with their school-provided grade-level coordinated book bag tag attached to their backpack. These tags help staff easily identify students and support a smooth transition into classrooms on the 1st day of school. Help your child’s first day transition by preparing accordingly!
Purchase 2025-2026 school supplies & uniforms
NBFA is a uniform-optional school. Students who wish to wear uniforms may purchase burgundy or navy blue polos with or without NBFA’s official logo on it and navy blue or khaki bottoms. Shirts with the logo may be purchased at Uniformz located at 4008 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT 06606; [203-396-0013].
