It has been a little crazy since we came back from break! This week in Reading we began literature circles! The students were put into groups based on their reading level and chose a book they want to read together. We will do this 3 days a week until the end of February. Each group planned out how many pages or chapters they would need to read to finish the book in time. At the end of the books, EACH student will choose a book report option they want to complete. These options are on Google Classroom.
In ELA, we have begun the RACE writing strategy.
I hope everyone had a great break and are ready to buckle up and finish the year strong! This week in Reading and ELA we are going to try to ease back into school. In Reading, we will begin our next unit called "Surviving the Unthinkable", but we will take it slow this week. The students are completing fill in the blank notes independently and this will be due at the end of the day Tuesday the 6th. In ELA, we are going to begin our RACE writing unit and practicing writing clear, purposeful, and focused responses. For the first two days of this week however, we are doing a New Year Resolution mini poster. This will be due Tuesday the 6th at the end of the day. These will be for a grade, so please your child(ren) get this done on time.
We made it! Not a big update this week. When we come back from break we will jump right into our next units for both Reading and ELA. Below are a few photos from today's snowman building activity! The kids all did a great job! They could only use 3 pieces of paper and a tape AND it had to stand up on it's own!
Enjoy your break!!!

Another week down! The students have been doing AMAZING on their MAP tests this week!! We have had so many mini celebrations for the goals that are being reached! Next week, we will be doing the activity next week. As a reminder, this is a "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" trial. The students will be split into two teams and plead their case on whether grandma got run over by a reindeer. This still relates to our argumentative unit because the students will be researching, finding evidence, and trying to convince the "judge" (me) of their stance. If there are any questions and/or concerns for this activity, please do not hesitate to reach out!
On Friday, December 19th, the students are still earning their "Full Day of Fun" as of now! As a building, we have been working on limiting disruption referrals. 6th grade has 7 referrals so far, so their earning of the full day

The students will be split into two teams and plead their case on whether grandma got run over by a reindeer. This still relates to our argumentative unit because the students will be researching, finding evidence, and trying to convince the "judge" (me) of their stance.
