Propaganda Term 3

Welcome to our new Literacy Unit all about Propaganda.

We have been so impressed with your inquisitiveness the last 2 weeks and we are very much looking forward to sharing this learning with you over the term.

To set you up for this unit, please follow the instructions and expectations.

Instructions:

  1. Copy the Google Slide to complete all the work. Save it to your Reading Folder and link it to your name.

  2. What do you already know? Answer this in your Google Slide.

  3. Compile a list of the topic words that you come across. These are words that are linked to propaganda, advertising etc or words that may be interesting or new to you. You will need this list for one of your activities so add to it as you read.

  4. Explore the site. Have a look at the Supporting Texts including the videos, the Additional Text work and the Task Board.

  5. Work through the activities. Get a partner to check and comment on your work (Positive/Helpful) as you complete each one.

  6. Choose three activities to blog over the course of the project.

Choose 3 that you like or thought were the most effective. Create a new presentation of your choice to show your understanding. Make sure that you have a title and definition for each. Answer the following questions. We will be discussing your answers as a small group.


  1. Dig in with analysis questions:

  • what do you notice about the language used?

  • the images?

  • what is your eye drawn to?

  • how would they describe the music used?

  • what are the primary colors?

  • where is the placement of the logo or the slogan?

  • how does the ad try to assure that you’ll remember it?

2. Use evidence to support their responses.

Read the article and be ready to come to your small group to discuss the different ways the advertising has an impact on kids and the different ages of kids.

Supporting Text:

There are 50 different examples of Visual Propaganda in this article. Read the article and then choose 3 to explain. You will need to research each of your choices and give detail for your audience.

You may choose a new tool to show your learning.

Watch the Pepsi Ad and look at the completed analysis. Use the same graphic organiser to analyse another ad from one of the videos you have watched in Task 1.
