Grading an Assignment Using a Grading Guide

Grading guides can be a helpful tool for consistency when grading student work. This feature needs to be setup ahead of time in the assignment settings and once setup will automatically display within the Assignment grading feature. For instructions relating to this process, please see Scoring Using a Grading Guide

Step 1:  Click on the assignment on your course page.

Step 2: Under the Grading summary, click View all submissions.

Step 3: Click Grade next to the student submission that you intend to score. 

The Assignment grader will appear. The Grading guide will display on the right-hand grading panel.

Step 4: Read through the grading criteria for the assignment component.  

Step 5: Enter any component specific feedback in the textbox (if desired). 

Step 6: Based on the grading criteria, enter a score in the textbox.  This can be any number between 0 and the maximum score for the component, including decimals.

Move to the next component and repeat steps 4-6 as needed.

Step 7: If desired, enter any general comments about the assignment in the Feedback comments field. 

Note: Feedback comments always display for students in the course gradebook along with the points for the assignment submission.

Step 8: When finished, click Save changes or click Save and show next to review another student submission.

Once the submission has been saved, students will be able to review the scored grading guide as well as any component feedback. Students can access this information by returning to the assignment activity in the course and scrolling down the Feedback section.
