Grading an Assignment Using a Checklist

Once a student submits an Assignment, faculty can view and score the document using a checklist in the in-line grader.  A checklist must be setup ahead of time under the Grades section in the Assignment settings. For instructions relating to this process, please see Using a Checklist for Grading

Step 1:  Click on the assignment on your course page.

Step 2: Under the Grading summary, click View all submissions.

Step 3: Locate the student within the list and click Grade.

The Assignment grader will appear. The checklist will display on the right-hand grading panel.

Step 4: Review the student submission within the Assignment display panel (left-side of screen) or click on the file name to download a copy of the submission to your personal device.

Note: The checklist will display on the right hand grading panel.

Step 5: Under the Grade section, if the submission has met the guidelines for an item, click the checkbox to assign the points.

Step 6: If desired, enter feedback for the entire group of items in the textbox.

Repeat Steps 5-6 for each checklist item as necessary.

Step 7: If desired, enter any general comments about the assignment in the Feedback comments field.  Feedback comments always display for students in the course gradebook along with the points for the assignment submission.

Repeat process as needed to score using the entire checklist.

Note: Any item or group level feedback will only be seen by students if they return to the assignment and review the checklist under feedback.

Step 8:  Once all items have been scored, review the Overall points displaying at the bottom of the checklist. This score will be added to the gradebook once saved.

Step 9: If desired, enter any general comments about the assignment in the Feedback comments field.  Feedback comments always display for students in the course gradebook along with the points for the assignment submission.

Step 10: When finished, click Save changes or click Save and show next to review another student submission.

Once the submission has been saved, students will be able to review the scored checklist as well as any item or group feedback. Students can access this information by returning to the assignment activity in the course and scrolling down the Feedback section.
