Reopening an Assignment Submission 

Assignment files that are listed as Submitted for grading cannot be updated by the student. Faculty can allow students to edit their submission by updating the status of the assignment to Draft status. This will allow students to go into the assignment and then upload a new file and resubmit, if needed.     

Note: When a new file is added to an assignment in Draft status, faculty will lose access to the original file that was initially submitted. 

Option 1: Reopening an Assignment Submission for a Single Student

Step 1: Click on the Assignment in the course.

Step 2:  Click View all submissions.  

Step 3:  Locate the student needing to resubmit. Click the edit link and then select Revert submission to draft .

Step 4:  Once the reverted to draft the status column will display: Draft (not submitted).  The student will then be able to access the file and resubmit. 

Option 2: Reopening an Assignment Submission for Multiple Students

Step 1: While viewing the View all submissions screen, click the checkbox next to each student name. 

Step 2: Click the with selected… field and choose Revert the submission to draft status from the menu.  

Step 3: Click Go.

Step 4: A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm the action, click OK.

The assignment status will update to Draft (not submitted) for each student giving them the opportunity to update the file.
