Adding Images to a Moodle Course

Moodle allows users to add images or graphics to course pages. Images can be adding using the drag and drop process or through a Label or other resource that allows for text editing. The sections below provide an overview of both methods for adding images.

Option 1: Using the Drag and Drop Method

Step 1: Switch to editing mode.

Step 2: Click and hold on the image located on your computer, drag the icon to the location on the Moodle page where you wish it to display (you can move it later), and let go.

Step 3: In the notification that appears, select Add media to course page.

Step 4: Click Upload. The file will display as loading with a blue progress bar and then appear on your course page.

Option 2: Using the Text Editor

Images can be embedded on any page that utilizes the text editor. The process below outlines how to add an image to the top of a section. A similar process can be used to add images to label, a resource or any activity page that allows for text editing.

Step 1: Click Turn editing on.

Step 2: Click Edit next to the appropriate topic, and select Edit section from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Under the General section, click the Image icon.

Step 4: In the pop-up window, click Browse repositories.

Step 5: Click Upload File in the side panel.

Step 6: Click Browse to locate the file on your computer.

Step 7: Once the file is located in the pop-up window, click on the file name and then click Open.

Step 8: If you want to change the file name, enter a name in the Save As field.

Step 9: Click Upload this file.

Step 10: Enter details in the Image description field.

Step 11: Review the image preview and select Insert.

Step 13:  Scroll to the bottom and click Save and return to course when finished.
