Music often plays an important role in conveying emotion in film; without it, the scene would not have the same impact. In animated comedies, music is not just necessary, but vital. From intense changes in emotion to snappy animations, an animated comedy often requires a precise and over-the-top score with the flexibility to change in a matter of seconds. As an aspiring film composer, I wanted to explore the process of writing for this genre and how it might impact my approach to writing for film. For my project, I re-wrote (or re-scored) the music for a short film named “La Vida De Una Piñata.” I will be presenting my process for scoring this film, including: how I analyzed the film, how I decided where to put the music, and how I organized the project session. I will also analyze the musical concepts I used like themes, orchestration, and more. My presentation features a slideshow with pictures, audio, and examples for each step of the process, which will culminate in the display of my final product.

This year, Nazareth’s Musical Theatre Cabaret class is proud to present a student-created performance, featuring a series of 7 minute solo sets woven together to make 2 cabaret shows. Join our students for performances of Disney classics, radio hits, and musical theatre repertory Students spend the first months of the semester gathering music, testing that music with faculty and focus groups, and figuring out the image that best represents them in their industry. In this performance, students have the opportunity to gather important media footage for casting directors, gain key solo performance experience, and most importantly: have the opportunity to lead their own show. This presentation gives students the chance to present not a character, but to show the audience themselves– by weaving personal stories from the past with well-loved music of all genres. With the faculty mentorship of Nicolette Hart and Andrew Cooke, this cabaret promises to have two performances of honest conversation, great music, and well-rounded storytelling.
