NAVAL KNOWLEDGE UNIT
Cadets in the Honors Program will: They will write a paper and give a power point presentation to the class on how the US Navy has been used as a tool of National Security Policy both in times of Peace and in times of Crisis. Several examples of each should be addressed. Also, what must be addressed is the concept of Law and how Military and Civilian Laws compare and contrast as well as how international Law effects the Military.
LEADERSHIP UNIT
Module 2 Leadership
At this point in a Cadets Career in NJROTC our honors program cadets will be expected to demonstrate the leadership traits and capabilities of a Platoon Commander. They will be expected to lead and drill a platoon of cadets using a standard drill card successfully.
Cadets in the Honors program will, additionally give a presentation to the class on the aspects of Leadership that they think is most important and why. They will be asked to pick a past historical leader (military or civilian) and discuss how that leader possessed the traits that they picked out as important.
NAVAL SKILLS UNIT
Cadets in the Honors Program will: Build and demonstrate the operation of a ships Maneuvering board as well as demonstrate how some basic aids to navigation work on Navy ships. To include the use of a Sextant, Basic Compass, Signal Flags, the Morse Code (both visual and infrared). They must also show a complete understanding of shipboard organization as to who is responsible for functions as Damage Control and Watch standing etc.
