Military Biography
Master Gunnery Sergeant Bartasavich enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 1985 from Dubois, PA and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island in February 1986. Following recruit training; PFC Bartasavich attended Infantry Training at Camp Geiger, NC. Upon completion he was assigned the MOS 0351, Anti-Tank Assaultman.
Lance Corporal Bartasavich reported to 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in November 1986 as a Gunner for the assault section. He was promoted to Corporal in July 1989 and assumed duties as an Assault Section Leader. Corporal was deployed to Korea during this time to provide security for the 1988 Olympics Seoul, Korea. Corporal Bartasavich was then transferred to Recruiting Station Richmond, VA in 1989 as a recruiter. In October 1991 he was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. Sergeant Bartasavich was then transferred to 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in October 1992 and appointed as a Platoon Sergeant. Sergeant Bartasavich completed to Unit Deployments to Okinawa, Japan. Sergeant Bartasavich was then transferred to Recruiting Station Raleigh, NC in October 1995. In 1995 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and assumed duties of SNOIC of RSS Southern Pines NC. Staff Sergeant Bartasavich transferred to School of Infantry Marine Combat Training in October 1999 as Platoon Commander. Staff Sergeant Bartasavich was then transferred to 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines Camp Lejeune, NC in August 2001 as Platoon Sergeant for Combine Anti-Armor Team and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in August 2002. Gunnery Sergeant Bartasavich was combat deployed to Forward Operating Base St. Michael Mahmudiah, Iraq/Fallujah, Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Gunnery Sergeant was then transferred to Headquarters and Support Battalion Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC. Gunnery Sgt. Bartasavich was assigned as the Company Gunnery Sgt. for Bravo Company from November 2005 through January 2006. During this time, he was promoted to Master Sgt.
MSgt Bartasavich reported to MALS-14 in January 2006 as the Squadron MSgt. During his tour with MALS-14, MSgt. Bartasavich was hand selected to fill and Individual Augmentee billet to Djibouti, Africa/Camp Lemonnier, as the Operation Chief for Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
MSgt Bartasavich reported to II MEF G-3 as the formal schools chief serving as the G-3 Operations Chief. MGySgt Bartasavich was promoted in October 2009 and assigned to 1st Battalion 9th Marines as the Operations Chief. MGySgt Bartasavich was reassigned to 2nd Battalion 8th Marines as the Operations Chief. During this time MGySgt Bartasavich was again combat deployed to Camp Hanson Marjah Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.
MGySgt Bartasavich was then transferred to 2nd Marine Division Training Center and Served as the Deputy Director. After retiring in November 2012 MGySgt Bartasavich obtained a Bachelor Science in Multi-Disciplinary Studies from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
Master Gunnery Sergeants awards include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Valor, Combat Action, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon, and NATO Medal-Kosovo.
MGySgt. Bartasavich is married to Rachel Stanley of Christiansburg, Va. He has five daughters: Jocelyn, Alexandra, Samantha, Sarinnah, Hannah and a son Devin.
