Required Health Screenings
Throughout the course of the year, the school nurse will perform certain health screening procedures for varying grade levels in compliance with NJAC 6A:16-2.1 – 2.5.
Among them are:
• Vision screening
• Hearing screening
• Scoliosis (spinal curvature) screening
• Health screening (height, weight, blood pressure)
Any student may be excused from the above screening procedures upon written request of the parent or legal guardian; the written request will become a part of the student’s permanent health record.
If any defects are noted upon these screenings, you will be notified and/or referred for further treatment.
Please complete and return all correspondence or requests from your School Nurse promptly.
Common Sense Health Advice
Keep yourself healthy by getting plenty of rest, eating healthy, staying hydrated, and avoiding large crowds of people
Stay home when you are sick and avoid close contact with other people who are sick
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; this is how germs spread
Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes; when a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work, or school, especially when someone is ill
Wash hands under clean, running water for 20 seconds to prevent the spread of germs or use a hand sanitizer made with at least 60% alcohol
Get at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week
Eat a well-balanced diet that includes lean proteins, colorful fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy, and whole grains
Stay hydrated by drinking at least 64 ounces of water daily
Thank you for helping to keep our Viking Community safe and healthy!
